England – Brighton

When you know the sun will be shining over the UK this weekend, it’s a great opportunity to get active outdoors outside your town. And it will be so this time as well. I will visit one of the most famous seaside resorts in Great Britain, namely Brighton.

Brighton, with a population of 300,000, is located on the south coast of England on the English Channel. It is only 80 km from London, which means that during nice weather and in the summer there are countless tourists in Brighton. This is one of those aspects that is definitely worth considering when planning a stay in this town. The city is perfectly prepared for the arrival of guests; in the city itself and its vicinity, there are numerous parking lots, an interesting hotel base, where everyone will find accommodation at their own pocket, and many restaurants that serve cuisines from around the world.

The city has many interesting attractions to offer, and the best part is that they are all close to each other. Walking around charming Brighton, you can visit all of them one after the other. One day is enough to see all the attractions, but it is definitely worth staying in Brighton longer, enjoying the cool weather, beach and sea.

Stroll through the old part of Brighton.

I left the car in one of the parking lots in the city center, which later turned out to be a good idea, because on the way to the seaside I visited the oldest district “by the way”. It is worth spending some time and walking through the narrow streets of this part of the district, among the old British architecture, which – it cannot be denied – is quite impressive. While walking, I managed to come across an interesting place, namely the oldest pub in Brighton called King and Queen. Cold beer tastes completely different there.

Royal Pavilion.

Next to the old part of the city, there is the Royal Pavilion. It is a building built in 1787 and designed in the Indo-Saracenic style. Initially, it was the summer residence of King George IV. The palace was rebuilt and extended over the centuries, and the present appearance was given to the palace by the architect John Nash. It is now a museum and some rooms are rented out for weddings. The palace is adjacent to a beautiful garden with many interesting species of flowers.

And this way we reach the main point of the trip, namely the beach.

British Airways i360 tower.

There are also many attractions waiting for you on the seafront. The first one is definitely the British Airways i360 Tower. The tower is 162 m high. Up to 200 people can stay in the dome at the same time. There is a fully glazed bar that serves drinks. Thanks to the tower, we can look at Brighton from a completely different perspective and see the whole city from above.

Sea life – aquarium

It is the oldest aquarium in the world, which has been welcoming visitors since 1899. Due to its small area, we will not find too many species of sea creatures and plants there, but if the weather is not good for you, it can be an interesting alternative to spend time there, especially for families with children.

Brighton Pier

Brighton Pier is nothing more than a long pier. British piers are definitely different from our Polish ones. Here it is primarily an entertainment centre. Brighton Pier is 500 m long. It is located in the centre of the city, so everyone will notice it when entering the beach. On the pier there are gaming machines that the inhabitants of Great Britain simply love, then we have restaurants and at the very end there is an amusement park with plenty of attractions for small and large lovers of Luna Parks.

Entrance to the pier is free.

Beach and promenade.

The heart of the city is certainly a beautiful, wide, but rocky beach, which attracts hundreds of tourists from all over the UK every year in the summer. It is impossible to get bored there in the summer, there are a number of attractions waiting for tourists, amusement parks, ice cream stands, candy floss, kayaks and pontoons. For tourists who want to take advantage of the sun, there are sunbeds and umbrellas and, as for me, a very chilly sea (the English do not mind at all). After blissful laziness, it is worth taking a walk along the promenade next to the waterfront, admiring the beautiful sunset. I also encourage you to visit one of the local restaurants and try the traditional “Fish and Chips”, which the inhabitants of the islands eat every Friday.

For sure, you will bring back nice memories and interesting photos from Brighton.
